By: Sharaine E. Kent
Thinking about purchasing that sexing swimsuit you've been eyeing or that golf club that you've been pining for, but unsure if you are dealing with a secure site on the internet? In today's web world you have to make sure while purchasing items online, that the internet address that you are visiting is indeed secure. Remember, you are giving out your personal credit card or banking information.
How can you tell if the website your on is secure? Here are a few tips you should know about before going through the check out process in the online store;
Check at the top of your browser to see that the beginning of the site address begins with ''https''. The extra ''s'' means that the site you are on is a secure one. Example: (https://hdtavcenter.hostexcellence.com/catalog/checkoutpayment).
With most brand name browsers like Microsoft's or Netscape's has its own identified icon. It will show as a small icon such as a locked padlock or glowing key in one of the corners of your web browser. This icon will mean that your browser has picked up the online stores host site SSL (Secure Socket Layer) certificate.
There is another route that you can take with a online merchant credit card processing company such as: PayPal or StormPay. Most online stores will offer alternative payment options for their customers to use. Setting up your account with these companies is easy but may take up to 48hrs to confirm your banking and credit card information. But once done, they offer options on which payment method you would like to use and will also give you confirmation that your payment was made.
Also you may go the old fashion way and ask friends or family about references concerning their purchases from the site.
Remember never give out your personal information unless you are sure on who is getting it and how it's going to be used.
